Scottish Spurtle

Read our blog post: What is a Spurtle and How do you Use it?

This handmade Artisan Hardwood Scottish Spurtle is a piece of functional art. It's a beautiful, heirloom quality item that's hand carved by an Artisan woodworker in the lovely hamlet of Hemlock, NY, population 556.

This good sized, well made spurtle works wonders for stirring your pots of thick stews, soups and sauces. The sturdy design is strong enough to really get in there and make sure your mixture doesn't stick to the bottom of the pot.

Also works as a muddler or pestle.

What's a spurtle? A tool first used in Scotland in the fifteenth century for stirring porridge and stews.

Heirloom quality to pass down for generations.

Available in Black Walnut (Dark) which is known for it's hardness and lasting durability.

Treated only with natural beeswax.

Best bread knife and it looks great too!

Usable but could be better

The finish was rough, band saw blade marks were still visible. After some hand sanding, it feels smooth but the handle is a little too short. The wood had not been thoroughly treated with an oil as it soak up oil as soon as I applied some. A slightly longer handle, and little extra work and care would make this a very nice bread knife.

Thanks James for your feedback about the Artisan Fiddle Bow Bread Knife. We really appreciate it. And thanks for supporting local artisans and small businesses. It makes a big difference.

Fiddle bread knife

I love the wood, but not happy with the screws. Crooked and stick out. On some of the pictures it shows rounded screws which I think would be better

Thanks for your feedback Melissa. Please note that the screws are put in by the maker at an angle to hold the blade tightly in place. Thanks too for supporting local artisans and small businesses. It makes a big difference.

Nice Dibbles delivered promptly

Used the small dibble for planting the summer crop. I anticipate it to help me plant many more seasons’ worth of crops.

Thanks William for the review and for supporting local artisans and small businesses. We're glad you were able to use your Artisan Garden Dibbles for planting and will get many years out of them. Enjoy!
