Scottish Spurtle

Read our blog post: What is a Spurtle and How do you Use it?

This handmade Artisan Hardwood Scottish Spurtle is a piece of functional art. It's a beautiful, heirloom quality item that's hand carved by an Artisan woodworker in the lovely hamlet of Hemlock, NY, population 556.

This good sized, well made spurtle works wonders for stirring your pots of thick stews, soups and sauces. The sturdy design is strong enough to really get in there and make sure your mixture doesn't stick to the bottom of the pot.

Also works as a muddler or pestle.

What's a spurtle? A tool first used in Scotland in the fifteenth century for stirring porridge and stews.

Heirloom quality to pass down for generations.

Available in Black Walnut (Dark) which is known for it's hardness and lasting durability.

Treated only with natural beeswax.

huge disappointment

i’m sorry to have to give a negative review but this item was poorly made. the screws were in crooked, the blade is cheap & crooked & the wood split. i sent it back & await my refund.

Hi Lisa. Thanks for your review. We have processed your refund and will forward your feedback to the maker. Please do note that the screws are put in at an angle to hold the blade taught. And the blade is attached 'crooked' on purpose for the best angle to contact and cut the loaf. Thanks too for supporting local artisans and small businesses. It makes a big difference.

Wish for a switch

Unfortunately I cannot use the knife because I am left-handed. The blade is wonderfully sharp, but the screws holding it on are very crooked. A suggestion would be to make the slice guide more narrow and provide left and right handed versions.

Thanks for the feedback Lynne. Sorry you were not satisfied with your item. We have emailed you a fully paid return label in case you would like a replacement or a refund. The item is available by special order in a left handed design. Thanks for supporting local artisans and small businesses. It makes a big difference.

Excellent knife

So happy with this knife. Not only is it beautiful but I was able to easily cut a dense sourdough loaf into super thin slices. And do glad to support a small American business!

Hi Judy! We're glad you're 'so happy' with your Artisan Fiddle Bow Bread Knife. Enjoy. And thanks for supporting local artisans and small businesses. It makes a big difference.
