Scottish Spurtle

Read our blog post: What is a Spurtle and How do you Use it?

This handmade Artisan Hardwood Scottish Spurtle is a piece of functional art. It's a beautiful, heirloom quality item that's hand carved by an Artisan woodworker in the lovely hamlet of Hemlock, NY, population 556.

This good sized, well made spurtle works wonders for stirring your pots of thick stews, soups and sauces. The sturdy design is strong enough to really get in there and make sure your mixture doesn't stick to the bottom of the pot.

Also works as a muddler or pestle.

What's a spurtle? A tool first used in Scotland in the fifteenth century for stirring porridge and stews.

Heirloom quality to pass down for generations.

Available in Black Walnut (Dark) which is known for it's hardness and lasting durability.

Treated only with natural beeswax.

Amazing Bread Knife

Very impressive knife! Loved it the day we received it!
My husband says it cuts like Buttah! (He’s from Boston) ha
We love it! I rub oil on the wood and bought a knife cover for safety!

Great Scooper

I ended up getting this as an alternative to others on the market, and I am happy I did. It works great and feels really durable. So I will get a lot of use in the years to come.

Hi Jean-Claude. Thanks for taking the time to write a review for the Artisan Mechanical Ice Cream Scoop. We're glad to hear that you like it and hope that you do get many years of use out of it. The maker Dave will be very happy to hear that as well. Thanks too for supporting local artisans and small businesses.

Cuts Great; Finish Lacking

The knife works very, very well. So glad to have a way to cut bread without damaging the loaf. The fit and finish is lacking though. The wood has many loose fibers and is rough to the touch. It could've used some additional sanding. Also, the screws used were countersunk not pan head as shown in the pictures. I think pan head screws would look better, but I'm sure there's not any functional difference between them. I'd recommend the knife, but provide the caveats first.

Hi Steven. Thanks for taking the time to review the Artisan Fiddle Bow Bread Knife. We will pass on your feedback to the maker. We would be happy to take the knife back and offer you a full refund if you are not satisfied. We will send you an email to follow up. The knife is finished with only natural beeswax to keep it safe around food. It should smooth out with use. The screws may differ from those pictured subject to availability. Thanks too for supporting local artisans and small businesses. It makes a big difference.

Great Bread Knife

Received this recently and it is a well crafted knife. Sharp and much easier for my arthritic hands to use than the standard style serrated knife.
