When cooking, choosing the the right utensils can mean the difference between a wonderful experience and one that’s just so-so. While you may have never given it much thought, there are many types of spoons you can use in the kitchen.
The most common types of spoons include:
- Wood
- Plastic
- Stainless
- Silicon
While all of these provide a variety of benefits, wooden spoons are the best for a variety of reasons:
1. They don't get hot
That's right. Other types of spoons can heat up when your in the mix of cooking your meal. But not wooden spoons. Wood doesn't conduct heat like some others do and won't draw heat out of your dish or burn your hand.
2. They don’t scratch
Are you concerned about using spoons that will scratch the finish off of non stick surfaces? If so, you can put your mind at ease with a wooded spoon. They are a much better choice than other options, particularly stainless.
3. They're extremely strong and durable
Let’s face it, there are times when you rely on your spoons to stir thick batters, stews and other recipes. If you rely on a weak plastic or silicon spoon, you risk breaking or damaging it. Not to mention the fact that it’ll put a lot of strain on your hand.
4. They’re recipe safe
You put a lot of time and energy into cooking, so you don’t want to use utensils that negatively impact the flavor. Metal spoons have the potential to react with certain foods, such as tomato sauce, which affects the flavor. Other types can smell or taste plastic-y. Wooden spoons are recipe safe, as they don’t react with any type of food.
If you’ve never cooked with wooden spoons in the past, now’s the time to give it a try. You will see how it changes your experience in the kitchen for the better.
