Handmade Wood Saute Spoon

This slender, long-handled little spoon is ideal for sauteing delightful things. Its slender shape makes it easy to use. It also makes a great spoon for mixing ice tea or other summery drinks and lends a bit of rustic charm next to a big pitcher of tea or lemonade.

It makes a great affordable gift!

These handmade wooden cooking utensils use timber that's sustainably harvested from local land. They may also use recovered woods from storm damaged trees and scraps from other area wood workers. Their primary woods are Black Walnut and Cherry, though they may occasionally have Silver Maple, Osage Orange, Pecan and White Oak.

  • Each item is an individual piece with it's own characteristics

Due to the nature of each item being individually handmade, slight variations will occur with wood grain and appearance from those pictured.

The Process:

There are about ten steps in the spoon-making process. Custom created templates are laid on the wood of choice and shapes are drawn out. Each piece is then carefully guided through a band saw before being sanded down to its desired shape. Next, if shaping a spoon, the bowls are gouged out to their desired depth. Then the pieces are sanded again, by hand, using increasingly finer sandpaper until the desired smoothness has been reached. Next is the final step, everyone’s favorite - the piece is rubbed with Red Road's own blend of edible cooking oils and a little beeswax. All that's left is to admire it as a sustainably produced piece of functional art!

Lead time: 7 - 10 days. Red Road hand-carves their work from wood that is sustainably harvested from their own or sometimes local land. Their wood supply is limited and may be effected by the weather and availability. At times, they may even need to make your utensil to order. This process can take a little extra time, but it's worth the wait for these Artisan pieces.

>Shop Local Arkansas

Red Road Woodworks makes sustainably produced functional art and has been family owned and operated since 1985. It was founded by Brad Archote, a rural homesteader. Struggling to raise a family on a sustainable farm in rural Arkansas, he mastered his woodworking skills and the family business was born. His love for food and cooking led to handmade kitchen utensils being a natural fit. Brad’s children were raised around the wood shop and today the business is operated by the second generation, with Jordan Archote leading the way. The third generation is being raised in the same tradition. It’s a great American family story.
